The Romanian national team will start its official adventure in the Nations League on September 25, where we are in a tough group alongside Bosnia, Poland, and Sweden.
There are 12 days left until Gică Hagi’s official debut on the national team’s bench, the start of his second term. He announced a preliminary list of players a week ago, a list that contains no less than 48 names.
Obviously, more than half will be dropped, but Hagi already faces several challenges in building a starting 11. Several players he counted on are currently on the benches of the teams where they are registered. These players include Dennis Man, Darius Olaru, Florinel Coman, Daniel Bîrligea, Ianis Hagi, and Valentin Mihăilă.
Man has not been a starter at PSV for some time, a team that wanted to sell him to Lazio in this summer transfer window, Mihăilă has moved to Turkey, at Rizespor, from Parma or Atalanta, Darius Olaru has yet to secure a spot at his new team Union St.Gilloise in Belgium, Florinel Coman plays inconsistently in Qatar, at Al Gharafa, Daniel Bîrligea was recently brought to Frosinone and is just starting to get some minutes, and Ianis Hagi, despite his assist yesterday for Alanyaspor, was close to leaving Turkey recently to join Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
Even so, Hagi can rely on a few players who are consistently playing abroad, such as Ionuț Radu, Andrei Rațiu, or Radu Drăgușin.
