One of Romania’s great hopes for the future in terms of central defenders, Andrei Coubiș, from Universitatea Cluj, the leader in the Superliga, raised at the academy of the great AC Milan, sends a message to Gică Hagi.
Hagi will most likely be presented on Monday as the national team’s head coach, returning to the technical bench after 25 years of absence from the national team, following that unfortunate playoff with Slovenia in 2001.
His good performances in Cluj have been appreciated by the national team members, where he was selected for the duel with Turkey in the World Cup qualifying playoffs. Coubiș made his debut under the national colors in the friendly match played in Slovakia, lost 2-0 in Bratislava.
"I am very happy that a legend from Romania is appointed as the national team coach.
Frankly, personally I don't know him, I don't know how he works, but - God help us! - maybe he could call me up for the national team and I can't wait to start working with him," said Coubiș after the match lost to Dinamo, 1-2.
The 1.89 meters tall defender, trained at AC Milan, has played 13 matches for U Cluj this season, scoring twice.
Romania will play the first matches under Hagi's guidance in June, 2 friendlies, on June 2 in Georgia and on the 6th against Wales at home.
