Romanian central defender Andrei Coubiș made his debut this weekend for the British team Lincoln City, freshly promoted to the second tier of English football, the Championship.
Coubiș played his first minutes on Saturday in the friendly match against Doncaster, with the Romanian footballer clocking 83 minutes in his debut, following his transfer this summer from U Cluj.
He had a good and solid performance, impressing the British journalists, who described him as the "main actor" of Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw's team. The former Milan player was brought to England for 3 million euros from "Șepcile Roșii" (The Red Caps), plus 15% from a potential transfer.
"Coubiș made his first significant contribution in the 13th minute, when he dispossessed Hutchinson in a dangerous area. Then, he showed his ability to take long free kicks and easily sent the ball to the penalty area, although Doncaster managed to clear the danger. Hutchinson then had a shot blocked by Coubiș. In the 83rd minute, Coubiș was replaced by Fifield. Coubiș was the main player for Lincoln," wrote the journalists from Stacey West.
Coubis became the most expensive transfer in the history of U Cluj, surpassing Dorin Goga's transfer to Poli Timișoara in 2009.
Lincoln City, the new team of the Romanian defender, promoted to the Championship, the second English tier, at the end of the previous season, finishing top of the competition in the UK, far ahead of the runners-up, with 103 points.
At 22 years old, Coubis grew up in the academy of the great Milan, and during his time at "U" Cluj, he scored two goals in 20 matches. His market value, according to Transfermarkt, is 1.2 million euros.
Lincoln's first official match will be on August 8, at 17:00, against Derby County, in the first round of the League Cup.
