The locality of Mihail Kogălniceanu in Constanța County becomes the first in Romania where drinking water supply will be stopped every night due to drought and very high consumption, announced the water company RAJA.
The water operator explains that, due to hydrological drought and extreme temperatures during this period, water consumption has increased so much that the storage reservoirs can no longer provide the necessary stocks for continuous supply.
Thus, water supply will be interrupted daily between 10:00 PM and 06:00 AM, until consumption returns to a level that allows the normal operation of the system. During the day, water supply will proceed normally.
RAJA recommends that residents ensure an adequate supply of water for household use in advance, in order to reduce the effects of periods when supply will be interrupted.
The company warns that using drinking water for purposes other than household exacerbates the situation and can affect the supply to the entire community.
The operator draws attention to the fact that watering gardens, filling pools, washing yards, terraces, or other external surfaces go against the service supply contract and lead to exceeding the capacity of the supply system.
RAJA reminds that current legislation clearly establishes that drinking water distributed through public networks is primarily intended to meet the household needs of the population.
According to the Water Supply and Sewerage Service Law and the Water Law, the use of drinking water for other purposes is only allowed if there are sufficient resources after covering the population's needs. At the same time, for activities such as irrigation, street washing, or green space maintenance, industrial water or other dedicated sources should be used as a priority.
The company appeals to consumers' responsibility and asks them to use drinking water exclusively for consumption and household use, avoiding its use for recreational, agricultural, or external surface maintenance purposes.
The operator specifies that teams constantly monitor the situation on the ground and that the normal supply schedule will be resumed as soon as technical conditions and consumption levels allow.
