PSD will propose a draft law for the administrative-territorial reorganization of Romania

The spokesperson of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), President of the Buzău County Council, Lucian Romaşcanu, announced on Monday that PSD has decided to establish a party working group to propose a draft law for the administrative-territorial reform of Romania.

„Today, a meeting of the National Political Council took place, during which governmental, legislative, as well as political and organizational issues were discussed. Regarding the governmental and legislative aspects, the establishment of a PSD working group to propose a draft law for the administrative-territorial reform of Romania has been set as a priority for the immediate future, a promise that the political class has made for a long time and which we have not yet fulfilled,” announced Lucian Romaşcanu after the party leadership meeting.

The President of the Buzău County Council specified that "this will support the reform, so that we can streamline local administrations and naturally lead to a reduction in the operating costs of local authorities, as well as an efficiency improvement to support the people through this reform."

According to Lucian Romaşcanu, the draft law will need to be developed by this working group in the upcoming period, probably within the next six months, and will then be discussed within the coalition and subsequently passed through Parliament.

The social democrat mentioned that "there is a need to strengthen local communities, there is a need to strengthen public services and state services in those respective communities."

"There are many aspects involved here, including education, schooling, healthcare, access to healthcare, infrastructure, and so on. The principle is not about abolishing, but about merging, and this aspect will probably also be discussed," explained Romaşcanu.
