President Klaus Iohannis has convened the new Parliament on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at the Palace of Parliament, following the legislative elections on December 1, announced the Presidential Administration.
The Constitution stipulates that, after the final results of the parliamentary elections are communicated, the newly elected Parliament meets, at the convocation of the President of Romania, within a maximum of 20 days from the elections.
The Chamber of Deputies and the Senate are considered legally constituted after the validation of two-thirds of the mandates of deputies and senators and after they have taken the oath.
On December 4, the Central Electoral Bureau for the election of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies completed the minutes regarding the seven political parties, organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities, political alliances, or electoral alliances that meet the electoral threshold in the elections for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
These are:
- Social Democratic Party,
- Alliance for the Union of Romanians,
- National Liberal Party,
- Save Romania Union,
- S.O.S. Romania Party,
- Party of Young People,
- Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania
The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) presented, on Tuesday, statistical data regarding the composition of the new Parliament by gender and age groups, showing that in the future Legislative body, out of the total of 465 parliamentarians, 364 are men and 101 are women.
Additionally, 29 are aged up to 34 years, and 33 are over 65 years old, with the majority falling into the age group between 45 and 64 years old.
