Florin Călinescu is considering running in the presidential elections.
The 67-year-old actor will represent a new party, but the name of this party will only be revealed in two weeks.
Călinescu will announce whether he will run or not after the European Parliament elections in June and after seeing how many votes his new party will obtain.
Here are some of Florin Călinescu's statements from Antena3:
- "The President of Romania must be a sovereignist, if that is the term for patriotism."
- "I have decided to enter, just like in any serious competition, to warm up"
- "First, we access the European Parliament elections to see what the population says".
- "On March 8-9, I will make the announcement, we enter the European Parliament elections".
- "We do not have the strength for local elections, thousands of cities do not yet have organized structures, but in the European Parliament elections, I believe we can win about two or three positions, which means over or around 500,000 votes."
- "If there are 500,000 votes, then the parliamentary elections are secured with 500,000 votes."
- "But I think that if we score like this in the European Parliament elections, the population has enough time until the parliamentary elections to say let's add some more here."
- "It depends on the population and only on the population, because we have the example of Iohannis, who shows us very clearly that the National Liberal Party cannot produce more than 1.5 million votes as a function of the party, but he made 6.5 million, four times, five times more."
- "So it's clear, popular energy has erupted. And in the second term, about the same amount of votes. So it is clear that I can also take into account the same conduct. But I still need this litmus test from the European Parliament elections."
- "That's why I say the European Parliament elections are very important. So surely I can deal with it for 3-4-5 months, even if they bring the first round closer, in September, I think I can seriously consider it."
- "I don't see myself inferior to any of the other candidates."
- "That is, I understood, looking at the Constitution, that it does not say what profession you must have. So the conditions for candidacy are very clear."
Florin Călinescu is no stranger to politics.
He ran for Mayor of Bucharest in 2020 on behalf of the Green Party.
And this was not his first political adventure. In the 2008 parliamentary elections, he ran for a senatorial position in Argeș on behalf of the National Liberal Party (PNL). He lost the battle. A year later, he was excluded from PNL Pitești, on the grounds that he did not respect the party's statute, did not pay the subscription fee, missed meetings, and allegedly insulted his colleagues.
