Elena Lasconi, the USR candidate in the presidential elections in the second round of voting, says that PSD is entitled to appoint the Prime Minister and does not rule out the possibility that Marcel Ciolacu could be chosen.
Regarding the future government, Lasconi specified that it is no longer about parties, about politicians, but about the fate of the country and there are no egos involved.
"This is no longer about parties, no longer about politicians. This is about the fate of the country. There are no egos. I want you to know that in all the discussions I had with all the political leaders yesterday, absolutely nothing was discussed about any claim to a ministry, to the position of Prime Minister. We are trying to build and that's what we are doing, and we will succeed in this, without egos.
If in the past some were upset that we offended each other, I say that hatred has no place in these days, in these moments. If we have wronged each other, let us ask for forgiveness. I can ask for forgiveness, if someone from these parties felt offended by a statement I made. It is not the time to have egos," said Elena Lasconi after meeting with representatives of the business environment.
- Elena Lasconi: This is the most difficult moment since 1989. Romania is not for sale and not to be given as a gift to Russia
- Ciolacu, after meeting with Lasconi: It is essential to maintain the current direction of Romania. Alongside the EU, NATO, and in the Schengen area
The USR candidate in the second round of the presidential elections emphasized that "the fate of Romania is at stake".
"We are building a pro-European government so that we do not move towards Russia, or worse, to put our country on a platter for Russia, for which people have died," added Lasconi.
Regarding discussions about the Prime Minister and the composition of the future Government, Elena Lasconi underlined that "ego is not an issue".
"The criterion is important, competence, we should negotiate based on competence and, based on the percentages we obtained in the elections, see which ministries each party desires. That means negotiation. But competence should be a priority," stated the USR president.
Asked if PSD, as the party that won the parliamentary elections, is entitled to appoint the Prime Minister, Elena Lasconi replied: "They are entitled."
Regarding the option of Marcel Ciolacu as Prime Minister, Lasconi said: "If he desires, but let me negotiate and I will tell you the result."
"If we all agree that Mr. Ciolacu should be the next Prime Minister, we need to put on the table a few very clear reforms that need to be made. That is, we need to reduce state expenses, we have a large budget deficit and we should agree on some reforms that need to be done very quickly, next year, in six months we should already have them done, which is very difficult and I am sure that Mr. Ciolacu will agree to this," added Lasconi.
