Diana Șoșoacă, Member of the European Parliament and leader of the SOS Romania party, continues to complain in the Russian press, accusing that she was denied participation in the Romanian presidential elections due to her pro-Russian stance. This is not the first time Șoșoacă has made such statements in the Russian media, claiming to be a victim of a political conspiracy.
"I am a Putin supporter"
Diana Șoșoacă stated on Thursday, March 20, that she was not allowed to run for president due to her support for Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
"The official reason was that I support Putin because I visited the Russian embassy in 2022 and started advocating for peace in the region. And I created the only peace memorandum in the world: 'Neutrality for Romania. Peace in Bucharest' where I invited Russia, Ukraine, United States, NATO, and all other countries to Bucharest, to the Palace of Parliament, to negotiate peace, because we do not need conflict," Șoșoacă told Izvestia.
Șoșoacă: I was at the top of the statistics
Șoșoacă claims that her candidacy was refused for absurd reasons, including based on traffic fines.
"They told me that I do not respect the Constitution, but I am the only parliamentarian who always invokes the Constitution in plenary. I am a lawyer, so I obey the law and the Constitution," reassured Diana Șoșoacă.
The SOS Romania senator continued:
"Then they said that I like to drive over the legal speed limit. That's a reason to reject a candidate...," Șoșoacă conveyed to the Russian publication.
"What they were actually afraid of was that I was at the top of the real statistics," she affirmed.
Regarding the Constitutional Court of Romania, she said she considers it a politicized institution, controlled by the ruling parties.
Controversial statements on Russia Today
The MEP recently appeared live on the state-run Russian television channel Russia Today dressed in mourning. She said that "democracy is dead in Romania" and accused Ukraine of threats against Romanians.
"They are not ready for me because I am a Putin supporter, because I love Russia," she said. She also claimed to have received shocking threats from individuals of Ukrainian origin, who reportedly told her that "Romanian women will be killed, our heads will be cut off, and we will be raped."
