Sector 6 Mayor, Ciprian Ciucu (PNL), accuses the Metropolitan Buildings Trust of needlessly cutting down trees on Prelungirea Ghencea Boulevard. And he demands the dismissal of General Director Cristian Hiver (USR), whom he accuses of incompetence and lies.
The widening project of Prelungirea Ghencea Boulevard has been a constant source of tension between Ciprian Ciucu and Mayor Nicușor Dan.
Specifically, Ciucu has always argued that the project - started during Gabriela Firea's term - is at a standstill. Ciucu also mentioned that he would like to take over part of the project and manage it at Sector 6 City Hall.
And Nicușor Dan promised to unblock the works and claimed that Ciucu did not ask him to take over the section that should have been managed by Sector 6 City Hall.
Overall, here is the current situation on each section of the project:
- Section 1 (Ghencea - Brașov Street) Trustul de Clădiri Metropolitane is working here. The road surface is expected to be completed this spring. However, the Trust is not working on the tram station 41 in front of Steaua Stadium (which also needs to be completed).
- Section 2 (Brașov Street - Râul Doamnei Street) It is completed.
- Section 3 (Râul Doamnei Street - Valea Oltului Street). PMB launched a tender, with only one offer submitted.
- Section 4 (Valea Oltului Street - Mărăcineni Street). Part of the same tender as Section 3.
- Section 5 (Mărăcinei Street - Domnești Overpass). It is under the responsibility of CNAIR, in the design phase of the works.
What Upset Ciucu
On Wednesday morning, March 20, Sector 6 Mayor posted on Facebook images of workers cutting down trees in front of some blocks.
"The Metropolitan Buildings Construction Company of PMB is a disgrace to Bucharest! They are cutting down trees on Prelungirea Ghencea without the need to do so (they have permission)!
It's a shame, the people in those blocks were truly protected by those trees. These trees could have been saved!
This company is led by Cristian Hiver, one of the most incompetent directors Bucharest has ever had. In over 3 years as director, he has completely neglected Prelungirea Ghencea: the progress of the works is a complete embarrassment, around 2% of the total works.
The devil made me politically support 3 capitalizations of this company, hoping they would seriously address Prelungirea Ghencea. He lied to me, took the money, and led it to Domna Ghica Overpass, this incompetent person, Hiver, being in another party.
I demand the General Council to dismiss Cristian Hiver due to sheer incompetence!"
Cristian Hiver is a member of USR, as confirmed by sources within the General Council to Spotmedia.ro.

Hiver declined to comment, stating that he will provide a press release to Spotmedia.ro to clarify the situation.
