Marcel Ciolacu, Social Democratic Party’s leader, commented on Tuesday regarding the candidates for Bucharest Mayor’s Office… both those who are and those who would have liked to be.
The PSD leader claims that he would have liked Gabriela Firea to be the party’s candidate for Bucharest Mayor’s Office, but „sometimes in politics you don’t just do what you feel or what is necessary for those close to you.” So it is fair for Gabriela Firea to be upset with him.
"I am firmly convinced that you are upset that Gabriela Firea is not the party's candidate. It is fair to be upset. It is fair for my colleague and friend Gabriela Firea to be upset with me. Sometimes in politics, you don't just do what you feel or what is necessary for those close to you. Usually, when you get involved in politics, your family suffers. It's the price we all pay," stated Marcel Ciolacu at the PSD Bucharest Elections Conference.
The PSD leader also mentioned that he would have liked Gabriela Firea to be the PSD candidate for the Bucharest Mayor's Office.
"Both Gabriela Firea and our district mayors, you have been in opposition for four years. You were turned away. They managed, in fact, to keep you united and this is thanks to Gabriela Firea," added Ciolacu.
About Cătălin Cîrstoiu, the candidate of the coalition parties for the Mayor's Office, Ciolacu said that he is "firmly convinced that today he will manage to empower you all and we will forget the reasons for being upset."
"I am firmly convinced that doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu, despite all the stories of recent days, despite the stubbornness of some against him, I am firmly convinced that he will be the general mayor on June 9. (...) Without the support of Gabriela Firea and yours, Cătălin will not succeed in winning the general mayor's office," Marcel Ciolacu further stated.
"I believe the main reason is the fact that Nicuşor Dan does not deserve to be the general mayor of the Capital City anymore. Nicuşor Dan is a failed term for general mayor," concluded Marcel Ciolacu.

The PSD leader also spoke about Cristian Popescu Piedone, whom he has known for 30 years and respects, but does not believe has the stature to be the Mayor of the Capital City.
"Mr. Piedone is an acquaintance of mine, we have known each other for about 30 years, he is a good mayor for the district, a man we can consider a victim because we have two contradictory decisions of some magistrates, but with all due respect for him, he does not have the stature to be the general mayor of the Capital City.
I ask myself: after the barbecue smoke clears, what program remains behind? None.
In other words, it's an illusion based on a fun background, on a presence as we all like on TikTok, especially for the youth, but the substance, because we are talking about the general mayor of the Capital City, actually does not exist," stated Marcel Ciolacu.
