PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu met with Elena Lasconi on Tuesday to discuss a possible support for the USR candidate in the second round of the presidential elections and the formation of a parliamentary majority.
At the end of the meeting, Ciolacu posted a message on Facebook stating that it is essential to maintain Romania’s current direction: alongside the European Union, NATO, and in the Schengen area.
Furthermore, the PSD leader stated that he will also meet with the leaders of other political parties who have already announced their intention to be part of a governing formula.
"Today, I had a meeting with Mrs. Elena Lasconi, the USR candidate who made it to the second round of the presidential elections, with whom I discussed about a pro-European parliamentary majority and about the solutions to achieve a government that supports the same values.
I will also meet with the leaders of other political parties who have already announced their desire to be part of a governing formula that will continue Romania's development using European funds. It is essential to maintain Romania's current direction: alongside the European Union, NATO, and in the Schengen area.
I told Mrs. Lasconi what I will tell all the political leaders I am going to meet, and that is that I will seek to implement the message conveyed by the Romanians in the elections: our country's European path must continue while staunchly defending traditional values, national identity, and the faith of this nation," Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
However, PSD refused to declare support for one of the candidates in the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday, among whom Călin Georgescu is a declared admirer of Vladimir Putin.
- Elena Lasconi: It would be good to have a national unity government. Ciolacu should support me
- Ciolacu returns to the position of PSD president, but refuses to make a voting recommendation for the second round
- Tens of thousands of people ask Ciolacu to support Elena Lasconi - where you can sign
- Why PSD does not want a government with all pro-European parties, as proposed by Lasconi
- University professor: PSD, you will be directly responsible for their horrors and abominations!
Ciolacu took a stand on Tuesday against a post appearing on an account attributed to Vladimir Putin's ideologist, Alexandr Dughin, who claims that Romania will be part of Russia.
"Romania #NO can have a future alongside Russia! Opinions like the one expressed on an account associated with a Vladimir Putin ideologist, stating that Romania will be a part of Russia, should show all of us why the Putinist regime is a threat to democracy," Marcel Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
