After 4 years of continuous clashes, now Alin Nica and Dominic Fritz are running together for Dreapta Unită, the Opposition alliance.
Former president of National Liberal Party (PNL) in Timişoara, Alin Nica, swiftly switched to Forţa Dreptei (one of three parties within the alliance) after being dissatisfied with alliance between the liberals and the Social Democratic Party. On Friday, he was announced as the candidate of the Dreapta Unită Alliance for a new term on the Timiş County Council, after three days of negotiations.
The announcement was made at the USR (another party within the alliance) headquarters in Timişoara, in a press conference held on Friday, attended by mayor Dominic Fritz.
„I can confidently announce that we have agreed to run on June 9 with Mr. Alin Nica, as candidate for the presidency of Timiş County Council on behalf of the Dreapta Unită Alliance. We have also agreed to run, of course, on a joint list for the Timiş County Council,” said Dominic Fritz (USR).
Both Dominic Fritz and Alin Nica were keen to point out that during the four years of vehement accusations and harsh words, they actually collaborated.
„Some have asked me how we are now running together, as there hasn’t always been sunshine between us in recent years. The truth is, first and foremost, that there has actually been good cooperation between PNL and USR at the county level. (…) We managed to solve several administrative issues together – the land on Paris Street for parking, the Cioca aerodrome, issues that have not been resolved in the last 20 years, which the two of us, despite our differences, have solved in recent years, and I also mention the collaboration we had on the Cultural Capital, where we united for the benefit of Timişoara,” said mayor Dominic Fritz.
„Of course, there were differences. I want to emphasize that these differences were not personal between Alin Nica and me, they were political (…). Alin Nica is someone who believes that the supreme evil is PSD, and with this belief, we will move forward,” noted Dominic Fritz.
„Obviously, there were 4 years in which we had disagreements and disputes, but I am glad that we have all found the maturity to overcome these issues, which pale in the face of the major danger ahead.
And I know, and you have seen, there is a real desire from those who want to separate us, divide us, to sow doubt between us, to bring back the things we said about each other in the past.
I know we have made mistakes, each of us is subject to error, but what I can say very clearly is that the project we envision for Timiş and Timişoara transcends any such disagreement we may have had in the past.
We were primarily from parties that fought with all weapons during the 2020 campaign. It was obviously a matter of mutual ignorance, because we didn’t know each other before, we didn’t know what kind of people we were, we didn’t know, we didn’t know each other’s ideas and vision,” said Alin Nica.
Alin Nica is in his first term as president of Timiş County Council. He wanted a second term from PNL, but the alliance with PSD thwarted his plans, as nationally it was decided that a PSD member would be supported for this candidacy.
Alin Nica opposed the PNL-PSD alliance in Timiş County, and for this reason, he was removed from the leadership of PNL Timiş, with Vasile Blaga being appointed in his place. Nica then joined Forţa Dreptei in order to run for a second term as president of CJ Timiş.
