Do not rejoice!

Do not rejoice!

The decision by the Constitutional Court that put an end to the crazy race in which Călin Georgescu was leading Romania towards a wall is not a reason for joy. It is, at least for some, a legitimate reason for relief.

The collective hypnosis has lost its subject, and it is very difficult for any other messianic figure to take over until May 4th.

Georgescu's votes in part will disappear through demobilization. We already hear various opinion leaders declaring themselves so offended that they no longer want to vote ever again. It is probably a good decision, and we can only wish them consistency.

Another part, we will see how large, will be divided among other candidates. One of the beneficiaries, as we have said before, is Victor Ponta, riding high.

Who will be the candidate supported by AUR remains to be seen.

AUR's Decline

The party seems to be in an incredible decline, especially after, in its farewell announcement, Călin Georgescu washed his hands, refused to designate a successor, and urged everyone to vote for whoever they want.

George Simion said he didn't want to run for president, probably also to avoid being accused of betraying Georgescu. Claudiu Târziu has his sword drawn and can't wait to decapitate the leader to take his place.

The time to gather signatures for another candidate, if they haven't been collected already, is very short until Saturday. One thing that George Simion admitted: 325,000 signatures were collected for Georgescu in one week. And it was about the Messiah.

If what is being outlined is confirmed, it would truly be the great shock of this period: AUR not having a backup plan for the highly probable scenario of Georgescu's elimination. This is what Claudiu Târziu claims.

How can you leave yourself so exposed in this way, how can you believe in the manipulation delivered to the masses and not understand a simple reality? Did anyone even imagine that Donald Trump cares about Georgescu, that the statements of Vance and Musk were for him, not in the big war with the EU?

We will see. At the time of writing, the AUR meeting is ongoing.

On the Verge of a New Heart Attack

It is certain that for Romania, only the immediate imminent danger has passed. But the crisis remains. Just because you were saved in the nick of time from a heart attack does not mean that the heart disease that caused it is cured and that without proper treatment, another heart attack is not imminent.

We have a large mass of citizens who feel politically robbed. The fact that, fortunately, violence only occurred punctually on Sunday evening does not mean that people are satisfied.

Between these people, pushed towards Georgescu by the behavior and track record of the leaders, and the political class, there is not a gap, but a canyon, which will also call into question the legitimacy of the future president, possibly elected against the backdrop of massive absenteeism, and the accountability of the governors to the decisions of the governed.

Nothing can be built on distrust, and it is now the rule in Romanian society. If people, now resigned but certainly not satisfied, are not won back by politics, if the bridge of trust is not rebuilt, the appearance of a future heart attack is a matter of time.

The Monstrous Precedent

Furthermore, the precedent set in electoral matters from the removal of Diana Șoșoacă until now is a monster. Everything that the Constitutional Court did on December 6, by canceling the elections, and on March 11, by eliminating Călin Georgescu, were corrections of the effects created by the first constitutional monstrosity when the Constitutional Court legislated by introducing mandatory criteria for presidential candidacy and arrogating the right to apply them in the analysis of candidacies. It seems that through the Decision of March 11, it recognizes this right also for the BEC.

It is terrible that anyone can be removed from the race based on unlegislated, quite vague criteria, without a fair process with the right to defense and appeal in a court of law. Today, this new rule saved Romania. But tomorrow?

I have nothing against the substance of the rules and criteria established by the Constitutional Court. I am against the fact that they are not legislated correctly and, above all, against the fact that in the face of their application, whether correct or arbitrary, there is no real defense. This is a fundamental problem that can strike anyone at any time.

So don't rejoice! There is no reason for that. We narrowly escaped immediate harm and are left with evils that sooner or later could take revenge for today's salvation. They must be the priority.
