A singing teacher from Galați, Romania, has been placed in preventive custody for allegedly inducing two children, aged 14 and 16, to engage in sexual activities, which legally constitutes rape. The sexually abused boys were his singing students.
Sources close to the investigation revealed to Adevărul that the suspect is the singer Aurică Totolici.
He is one of the most famous folk singers from Galați and the Moldova region. He was a member of the "Doina Covurluiului" ensemble in Galați for over 20 years and currently, at the age of 59, he is retired and teaches singing to children.
The Criminal Investigations Police in Galați conducted a search at his residence on Sunday and accuse him of committing rape against a minor, ill-treatment of a minor, and facilitating sexual acts between minors.
Totolici allegedly refused to open the door to the police, so they had to break in.
The police stated that from September 2023 until now, the individual allegedly took advantage of his role as a singing teacher to induce two children, aged 14 and 16, to engage in sexual activities.
Initially, the man was detained for 24 hours, and the Galați Court approved the proposal for a 30-day preventive custody. The singer contested the measure, and his request will be discussed at the Galați Tribunal on July 18.
