The energy system of Moldova was severely affected on Saturday by a power outage caused by problems in the Ukrainian network, which left Chisinau and other regions of the country without electricity.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, published on Telegram, disruptions in the Ukrainian network led to a voltage drop on one of the supply lines to Moldova, Reuters reported.
Power has already been restored in some settlements, as indicated by the ministry on Telegram.
Mayor Ion Ceban stated that most sectors of Chisinau were left without power, and authorities mentioned that even the traffic lights were not functioning.
Ukrainian energy officials have not yet commented on the situation.
However, the energy company DTEK announced emergency interruptions in certain areas of Ukraine, and the metro in Kiev has suspended its operations.
The energy crisis also caused a temporary halt in water supply in Kiev, local authorities reported.
The Ukrainian power grid has been one of the main targets of Russian attacks in recent months, and consumers have been facing significant energy restrictions for weeks.
