The DIICOT notification follows the analysis of information resulting from declassified documents from the CSAT regarding the presidential elections.
"Following the analysis of information resulting from the (declassified) documents presented at the CSAT meeting on November 28, 2024, regarding the electoral process for the position of President of Romania, DIICOT prosecutors have taken note of offenses involving illegal operations with devices or computer programs, attempted disruption of computer systems, and attempted illegal access to a computer system," according to a DIICOT statement.
According to the cited source, the investigations are conducted in rem, and this stage of the criminal process does not imply the formulation of accusations against any person(s), but establishes the procedural framework necessary for gathering evidence to establish the correct and complete state of facts that would allow for the adoption of a legal and well-founded solution in the matter.
The notification from DIICOT prosecutors comes following the request on Thursday, December 5, from the Prosecutor General of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice to the Chief Prosecutor of DIICOT to conduct an analysis of the information from the documents presented at the CSAT meeting on November 28, 2024.
In this context, factual elements are being analyzed to determine the initiation of a criminal investigation regarding offenses within the competence of DIICOT, according to art.11 of Emergency Ordinance no.78/2016, as stated by DIICOT.
