A few days’ escapade in Europe doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Several cities can be visited this autumn with a maximum of 100 euros per day, and Bucharest ranks second in the list of the most affordable destinations.
Tirana is the cheapest option, with an average budget of 59 euros per person per day, followed by Bucharest, where expenses reach around 66 euros.
The ranking, presented by Euronews, is based on an analysis conducted by the travel agency Thomas Cook in 51 European cities.
Accommodation in a three-star hotel, meals, drinks, public transport, and access to tourist attractions were taken into account for a trip in early September. Flight tickets are not included.
Bucharest, 66 euros per day
In Bucharest, accommodation for one night in a three-star hotel costs an average of around 32 euros per person if a room is shared by two tourists. With meals, public transport, and visiting attractions, the total budget reaches about 66 euros per person per day.
The average price of a ticket to a tourist attraction is less than 9 euros. Romania's capital also has the cheapest daily transport pass among the cities analyzed: around 1.50 euros.
The study mentions Bucharest's attractions such as the Palace of Parliament, the Romanian Athenaeum, and the Old Town. The capital is also among the European cities with the best value for money offered to tourists.
Tirana leads the ranking
Tirana can be visited with approximately 59 euros per day. Accommodation in a three-star hotel costs an average of 32 euros per person, a dinner at an affordable restaurant costs 8.50 euros, and a coffee costs around 2 euros.
Entry fees to paid tourist attractions are also inexpensive, averaging 4.50 euros. The city attracts visitors with its architecture, cafes, and the Blloku district, once reserved for the elite of the Communist Party, now transformed into a nightlife hub.
The podium is completed by Antalya, with a daily budget estimated at 78 euros. At the same level is Warsaw, followed by Istanbul, where a day costs around 82 euros.

On the other end, Amsterdam can reach around 353 euros per person per day. The difference between destinations could exceed 1,200 euros for a five-day vacation.
The estimates are indicative and are based on prices available for early September. The cost of accommodation was calculated per person, assuming that a room is shared by two tourists.
