Burduja says that for many romanians, there will be price drops in energy starting next month

Many romanians will see price decreases starting next month, especially for gas, but also for electricity, particularly for those with a higher cap, of 1.3 lei per KWh, stated the minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, on monday.

He was asked during a conference about the possibility of the caps being modified again.

"At this moment, no. We are evaluating the effects of the regulatory act that we have just adopted, which, as I have mentioned, will lead to lower bills for many romanians (...) What is important is that prices on the bills remain the same or decrease.

For many romanians, especially for gas, there will definitely be decreases that they will notice starting next month, and for electricity, especially for those with a higher cap, the one of 1.3 lei per KWh, which is above the cap we currently see on the market," explained Burduja.

He emphasized that a supplier does not buy all the necessary amount of electricity only from the market; they also have long-term contracts, bilateral contracts, and various other financial arrangements that lead to a monthly average price.

The Government adopted, on March 28, the Ordinance for amending and supplementing Emergency Ordinance 27/2022 by abolishing the solar tax for prosumers and updating the support scheme for all electricity and natural gas consumers, which will lead to price reductions for the next 12 months.

"Today, the Government of Romania approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy, modifications to Emergency Ordinance 27 that will lead to a price decrease for producers selling without being overtaxed from 450 lei/MWh to 400 lei/MWh for electricity, and from 150 lei/MWh to 120 lei/MWh for natural gas. These values were established following detailed market analyses and consultations with all actors in the sector," stated a ministry press release.
