Matthew Perry's X account hacked by hackers who posted a request for donations

Matthew Perry’s X (formerly Twitter) account has been hacked by cyber criminals, who posted a donation request for a fake organisation.

The Friends star died in October 2023, but his account remained active.

A message appeared on Matthew Perry's account urging people to donate, according to Sky News.

The money appeared to be raised for a foundation set up in the actor's honour, but the payment link led to a duplicate website made by hackers.

The post in question was flagged by the Twitter community, which reports that the profile was hacked and the link is a scam.

The official Matthew Perry Foundation quickly warned users that the account had been hacked and advised people not to donate to unauthorized sources. Donations should only be made on the official MatthewPerryFoundation.org website.

The foundation was set up to help those struggling with addiction, as Matthew Perry has also struggled with addiction in his lifetime.

Perry became famous after playing Chandler Bing on the hit show "Friends," which ran from 1994 to 2004. He has also starred in several television series, including "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," and films such as "17 Again" and "Fools Rush In." But outside of his film and television accomplishments, Perry said he wants people to remember him for helping others.

In his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," released in 2022, Perry opened up about his addiction to alcohol and prescription painkillers, which was triggered after a doctor prescribed Vicodin following a ski-jet accident. The late actor also set up an abstinence house to help others in their battle with addiction.
