Cotroceni Palace Hosts Swearing-In of New Defense and Economy Ministers

Radu Miruță and Irineu Darău (both from USR) took the oath of office as Romanian Ministers of Defense and Economy on Tuesday.

The event took place at the Cotroceni Palace. Only Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan attended the ceremony, without the presence of Cabinet ministers or coalition party leaders.

Last Friday, the two were validated for these positions by the USR Political Committee.

Radu Miruță is a USR deputy in his second term. He holds a Ph.D. in Telecommunications and is a graduate of the Faculty of Law. In his current term as Minister of Economy, he participated in negotiations regarding the European financing package SAFE, through which Romania is allocated over 16.6 billion euros for defense projects.

Before leaving the Ministry of Economy, Miruță announced that he is changing the rules for tourism fairs because 2 million euros per year were going to whoever sent the first email.

Irineu Darău, who takes his place as Minister of Economy, has over 15 years of professional experience accumulated in the private sector, including in international contexts, working for complex companies and projects in the industrial, financial, and technological fields, according to a USR statement. Since 2020, he has been a senator from Brașov.
