Romanian central defender Radu Drăgușin, recently back from a lengthy injury, seems to be in danger of being sidelined by Tottenham.
The former Genoa player, brought to England for 25 million euros, has been back in training with Tottenham for a month now, following the cruciate ligament rupture he suffered at the end of January in a Europa League match against the Swedes from Elfsborg.
"To the Lane and Back," an online publication close to Tottenham, writes that it is unlikely for Drăgușin to quickly return to the field at Spurs, considering his long absence, as well as the multiple defensive options now available to Danish Thomas Frank.
The mentioned publication also writes that the 23-year-old defender might consider a loan in January if he does not get many minutes in the first team this autumn at Spurs, when the January transfer window reopens in the Premier League.
"He shouldn't worry, as the team being involved on all fronts this season, there will be occasions when Frank will rotate and offer players from the second line opportunities to demonstrate their talent.
But when the opportunity arises, Drăgușin will have to seize it with both hands and show why he deserves to stay at Tottenham. If he fails to get minutes after full recovery from the injury, the imposing defender must consider a loan in January."
On the other hand, the recovery expert consulted by English journalists, Dr. Rajpal Brar, believes that Spurs' physiotherapists and officials will not rush Drăgușin back into action after such a serious knee injury: "Usually, in elite football, the time frame for returning after a previous cruciate ligament rupture is about 7-9 months, so Drăgușin would fit into this usual time frame," Dr. Rajpal Brar stated for Tottenham News.
