President Donald Trump was forced to admit that he could not fulfill one of his most popular and absurd campaign promises.
During the 2024 elections, Trump repeatedly claimed that he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours, even telling Fox News journalist Sean Hannity that he was „100% sure” he would be able to fulfill this commitment.
However, despite being in office since January, the war between Russia and Ukraine continues without a foreseeable end.
On Wednesday, Trump did not have a convincing response when Austrian journalist Johannes Petrov reminded him: "You once said you would end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. You later said it was a sarcastic remark."
"Of course, I said it sarcastically," Trump replied, at which point Petrov continued: "But you have been in office for five months and five days. Why haven't you been able to stop the war?"
Initially, Trump acknowledged that ending a geopolitical conflict between two rival states is "more difficult than anyone could imagine," writes Huffington Post.
He then began to blame others.
"Vladimir Putin was tougher. Honestly, I had some issues with Zelensky, you probably read about them. And it's harder than other wars," added Trump, before listing the conflicts he claims he would have ended more easily.
The moment was captured in a video clip, and ironic reactions quickly surfaced on social media.
