A Belgian police officer died in France during a high-speed chase after drug traffickers.

A Belgian police officer and a suspect died in a tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday night, during a high-speed chase that started in Belgium and ended on a highway in France.

The pursuit targeted a vehicle involved in drug trafficking, using the method known as „go-fast” – a transportation style frequently used by traffickers, involving high-speed driving to evade police checks.

According to Le Figaro and AFP, the pursued car was monitored by three Belgian police cars, which crossed the border in cooperation with French authorities.

During the operation, the suspect's car was involved in a serious road accident, resulting in the loss of life of a Belgian officer and one of the occupants of the pursued vehicle.

The French gendarmerie confirmed that the fatal impact occurred in Angevillers, in the Moselle department, approximately 40 kilometers from the Belgian border.

Belgian and French authorities frequently collaborate, including in cross-border criminal pursuit operations.

The investigation in this case was taken over by the Research Brigade in Thionville.
