Addressing him, along with Queen Camilla, with "warmest congratulations" on his election as President of Romania, Charles emphasizes that Nicușor Dan's term begins in a period of great uncertainty in Europe and the world and with many challenges, from combating climate change and protecting nature, to ending the terrible conflict in Ukraine.
"I remember very well my visit in 2022 to the Romexpo Center in Bucharest, where we met when you were mayor. I know that under your leadership, not only will the relationship between our countries prosper, but we will remain united in our common activities, including in supporting Ukraine and the stability of the region," Charles writes in the message published in full on the Facebook page of the British Embassy.
Additionally, the king recalls the moments he spent in Romania and assures that the United Kingdom remains one of Romania's closest friends and partners.
"I fondly remember the time spent in Romania over the past twenty-seven years, after traveling throughout the country and coming to know and appreciate the art, culture, and architectural heritage of your country, as well as all the people in Romania whom I consider myself so fortunate to have met. I know that Romania has in the United Kingdom one of its closest friends and partners, a relationship all the more close and vibrant as there is a flourishing Romanian diaspora here that contributes so much to our country," the king confesses in his message, signed 'Charles R.'
The new President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, assumed office on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace.
Prior to this, during the solemn session at the Palace of the Parliament, Nicușor Dan took the oath of office, becoming the fifth President of Romania.
