On Monday night to Tuesday, the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) announced a new drone attack in Ukraine, near the border with Romania.
This led to the establishment of an aerial alert in Tulcea County and the issuance of a RO-Alert message to warn the population in that area.
Details about the drone attack and the response of Romanian and Italian forces
The attack took place near the Romanian border, as Russian forces targeted civilian targets and port infrastructure in Ukraine.
As a precautionary measure, Romanian authorities activated the necessary alerts and sent a warning message through the RO-Alert system for the northeast area of Tulcea County.
According to MApN, this incident was reported to the authorities by the National Military Command Center on Monday evening around 11:30 PM, local time.
Aerial surveillance and protection measures
As a result, the Air Forces conducted surveillance and protection missions in Romanian airspace.
Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Forces, along with two Eurofighter planes of the Italian Air Forces, took off from the 86th Air Base Borcea and the 57th Air Base Mihail Kogălniceanu.
These aircraft were tasked with monitoring and protecting Romania's airspace as part of the Air Policing missions.
Drone in Romanian airspace
During the attack, Romania's radar system signaled the possibility that one of the drones involved briefly penetrated Romanian airspace, east of the town of CA Rosetti, Tulcea County.
This drone is believed to have entered Romanian airspace up to a depth of 500 meters, but contact with it was lost on Ukrainian territory.
Conclusions and further measures
The aerial alert was lifted on Tuesday morning at 4:50 AM, and the combat aircraft returned to their deployment air bases.
The Ministry of National Defense will continue ground investigations in the affected areas and will maintain aerial surveillance missions to prevent any similar risks.
Additionally, allied structures are constantly informed about the developments resulting from the Russian attacks.
MApN reiterated its strong condemnation of these attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, emphasizing that they are unjustified and blatantly contradict international law norms.
