International leaders have welcomed the victory achieved by the conservative bloc, led by Friedrich Merz, in the parliamentary elections held on Sunday in Germany, while some of them have pointed out the historic score achieved by the far right, according to partial results of the election.
“I just spoke with Friedrich Merz to congratulate him on this victory in the German elections. I also exchanged messages with Olaf Scholz tonight and conveyed my appreciation. We are more determined than ever to achieve great things together for France and Germany and to work for a strong and sovereign Europe. In this period of uncertainty, we are united to overcome the major challenges of the world and our continent,” reacted French President Emmanuel Macron on platform X.

In turn, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer congratulated Friedrich Merz and the CDU/CSU bloc and expressed his eagerness to work with the new German government “to deepen an already strong relationship, strengthen common security, and provide growth for both countries.”
“Congratulations to CDU/CSU and Friedrich Merz for their clear victory in the Bundestag elections today. A clear voice from the voters and we see how important this is for Europe. I look forward to continuing our common work with Germany to protect lives, bring real peace closer to Ukraine, and strengthen Europe. In a post on X, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte congratulated Friedrich Merz on his victory in the German elections. “I look forward to working together in these crucial times for our common security. It is vital for Europe to increase its defense spending, and your leadership will be essential,” Rutte emphasized.
American President Donald Trump wrote on his network, Truth Social: “Much like in the USA, the people in Germany are tired of the senseless agenda, especially regarding energy and migration, which has dominated for so many years. It is a great day for Germany.”

According to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the victory of the conservative bloc led by Friedrich Merz is decisive for Germany, Europe, and the European conservative political family. The Christian Democratic Union (Merz's party) and New Democracy (Mitsotakis's party) are members of the European People's Party. “One thing is clear: you will be the future chancellor of Germany,” added the head of the government in Athens.

On the other hand, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban congratulated the leader of the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD), Alice Weidel, whose party came in second in the elections held on Sunday. “The German people have voted massively for change. I want to congratulate Alice Weidel for doubling the share of AfD votes. Good luck and God bless Germany!” Orban wrote on X.
