Strong stance from Chisinau after several drones crashed in Moldova

After two drones fell on the territory of Moldova last night, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken a firm stance.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Chisinau was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and informed that the Russian Cultural Center will suspend its activities in this country.

During the meeting, the Moldovan side expressed strong protest against these unacceptable violations, emphasizing that such incidents represent a serious threat to national security and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

"The Russian diplomat was informed that such actions constitute a violation of national sovereignty and are another unfriendly gesture from the Russian Federation. The Ministry also presented fragments of the drones that fell on the territory of the Republic of Moldova as concrete evidence of these serious violations against the people of our country," states the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau on Facebook.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the call to the Russian authorities to immediately cease these incursions and to strictly respect the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.

"In response to these provocations, the Ministry has decided to unilaterally denounce the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental agreement on the establishment and functioning of cultural centers, concluded in 1998. After the denunciation procedures are completed, the Russian Cultural Center is to suspend its activities in our country," adds the cited source.

A Russian drone entered Romanian airspace last night for a short time and may have crashed 10 kilometers from Galați.

Maia Sandu stated that two other drones violated the country's airspace and exploded on the ground. "Two Russian drones fell in Moldovan villages and towns - one fell in a field near Ciumai in Taraclia, and the other exploded in a field near Ceadîr-Lunga," wrote Maia Sandu on Facebook.

"The Republic of Moldova has not attacked anyone, has not claimed any foreign territory, has not entered into conflict with any other state, and has neutrality enshrined in the Constitution. The Republic of Moldova has promoted and done everything for peace. However, Russian drones and bombs fall and explode in our villages. And we must acknowledge that we do not have the necessary capabilities to defend ourselves against them," emphasized Maia Sandu.

And these are not the first incidents with drones crashing in Moldova. Last year, just in November, a drone was found in the outskirts of the locality Coșernița. In the same month, two other drones were found crashed on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, one in the northwest of the country, and the other in the southeast. Then, another drone was found in the area of Port Mall and Arena Chișinău.
