What PNL and UDMR say about PSD's withdrawal from negotiations

Romania urgently needs a new government, which will responsibly create a new budget, take measures to boost the economy, and PNL is ready to take on the responsibility in all these efforts, stated Ilie Bolojan after PSD’s decision to withdraw from government formation negotiations.

„The National Liberal Party still wants to contribute to finding a solution. The country is already in a complicated situation, and the failure to form a governing coalition will cost Romanians dearly. Romania urgently needs a new government, which will responsibly create a new budget, take measures to boost the economy, and continue to attract European funds. Again, PNL is ready to take on the responsibility in all these efforts,” said PNL leader Ilie Bolojan.

In turn, UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor made a strong appeal for calm and dialogue. He categorically ruled out the possibility of a minority government.

The UDMR President urged to continue discussions for the formation of a stable government, asking colleagues to set aside their egos and grievances.

"My suggestion is for everyone to calm down, take a bucket of cold water, put their feet in cold water, and tomorrow we return to the negotiation table," Kelemen Hunor told Mediafax.

He emphasized the need to maintain the broad majority formed after the parliamentary elections, composed of PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR, and the National Minorities Group.

Kelemen Hunor categorically ruled out the possibility of a minority government, stating that it would not be able to solve the country's problems and would not have the necessary parliamentary support, especially before the presidential elections.

"We need to give a government that has a stable majority in Parliament. It's no longer about a leader, a party, it's about citizens, people, the country," emphasized the UDMR leader.

Kelemen directly called on the political leaders involved in the negotiations: Marcel Ciolacu, Ilie Bolojan, and Elena Lasconi. "We need to continue the discussions starting tomorrow. Today we talk on the phone informally, but there is no other option. It is our responsibility to find a solution for Romania," he said.

UDMR's leader strongly criticized politicians suggesting early elections or already dividing positions. "They are political adventurers, those who make such comments. We need to return to the negotiation table. This is my humble request to my colleagues," Kelemen stated.

Asked if there are still chances to continue negotiations in the valid formula until PSD's announcement, Kelemen Hunor remained optimistic. "I say yes. A broad coalition formula or a more restricted but still majority one must be implemented. There is no room for egos or demonstrations of strength," he concluded.
