Politehnica is reviewing the employment file and teaching career of lecturer Călin Georgescu

The employment file and teaching career of Professor Călin Georgescu, an associate professor at the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest – the university center in Pitești, are being reviewed by the Ethics Committee.

The complaint concerns a series of irregularities in the hiring and teaching career of Professor Călin Georgescu. The complaint also mentions several public statements made by the Politehnica employee denying science, evidence, research, medicine, promoting conspiracy theories, and expressing positions that may be considered incompatible with the status of a university lecturer, as reported by Edupedu.

The complaint was filed in Pitești, where Călin Georgescu was hired in 2021. The former University of Pitești became a university center after being taken over by Politehnica University.

The higher education institution was immediately notified after the first round of the presidential elections regarding the conspiracy theories promoted by Călin Georgescu.

Georgescu is currently an associate professor employed as a lecturer at the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, according to the institution's website. He teaches at the Department of Environmental Engineering and Applied Engineering Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences, Physical Education, and Informatics at the Pitești university center from 2021 to the present. Georgescu is the lecturer for the courses "Risk Factors, Pollution, and Environmental Restoration" and "Integrated Waste Management," according to the university's CV.

Professor Sorin Fianu, Georgescu's hierarchical superior at the University of Pitești, stated that he does not know how he managed to receive so many votes in the first round of the presidential elections.

The National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest publicly responded yesterday, in a statement, announcing that it is a "non-political and impartial" institution and its members have the "personal right" to engage in political activities. Politehnica states that the opinions and statements of its community members "should be understood as strictly personal, not reflecting the institution's position, and are separate from the academic mission."
