A road bridge in the Crimean peninsula collapsed on Wednesday, damaging the railway lines underneath and affecting one of the supply routes for Russian troops fighting in Ukraine.

Two people were injured when the bridge on the Djankoi-Maslove route collapsed, and one of the victims is in critical condition. The cause of the incident has not yet been confirmed, as reported by the publication RBC-Ukraine, cited by Newsweek.

Officials from the Crimean occupation administration did not comment on the cause of the collapse. The Russian Investigative Committee announced that the bridge collapsed due to vehicles on it that were too heavy for the structure to withstand.

Russian Telegram channels reported that a truck and a car were on the bridge at the time of the collapse. One of these sources, the CHP Severnii Krim channel, relayed witness accounts stating that the bridge could not support the weight of the truck, as reported by Pravda.

The bridge's deterioration will disrupt the transport of supplies from Russia to the troops fighting against Ukraine. The railway passing under the bridge is used for military transport in the area, and the Djankoi district in northern Crimea appears to be a crucial military logistics center, as noted by Newsweek.

The bridge on the Djankoi-Maslove route is not the only one in Crimea that has recently suffered damage. The Kerch Bridge, also known as "Putin's bridge," has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian forces and requires repairs after sustaining significant structural damage, reported in September by the Ukrainian partisan group Atesh.
