Camila Giorgi disappeared from the public eye 5 months ago, after unexpectedly announcing her retirement.
She withdrew at a time when she was involved in a scandal related to fake anti-COVID vaccination, and Italian prosecutors were on her trail.
Not even the WTA could locate her anymore, but Giorgi finally resurfaced five months later and granted an interview.
She stated that her retirement was not related to the fake vaccination case and blamed entirely on the doctor Daniela Grillone Tecioiu.
"I was surprised by the doctor because I thought we had a human relationship, but as soon as she got into trouble, she mentioned my name. I felt bad. She wanted to protect her business. I didn't know she didn't vaccinate me. I only found out later that it wasn't real. There will be a hearing in November, but I'm sure everything will be fine," said Camila Giorgi, according to tenniswolrdusa.org.
Camila Giorgi has won four WTA titles in her career and reached as high as 26th place in the world rankings.
