The InterCity Claudiopolis train from Cluj-Napoca to Budapest derailed on Sunday evening near the Eastern Railway Station in the Hungarian capital.
A technical intervention was underway on Monday morning at Keleti station, announced the Hungarian railway company MÁV, cited by 24.hu.
The InterCity train (IC 74) that derailed blocked traffic at the main station of the Hungarian capital.
According to index.hu, the carriages of the train from Cluj-Napoca are approximately 50 years old.
A passenger reported that he was traveling in the rear carriage and felt a jolt at the moment of the derailment. Initially, he did not realize there was a major issue. According to his account, there were no casualties, but the ambulance siren could be heard in the area.
Another passenger reported on a Facebook group that the front part of the carriage went off the track, while the rear part went onto the other track. "So we went in a cross until we stopped. Fortunately, we were moving slowly and did not overturn, but it was very scary. Everything was shaking," wrote the passenger.
The accident caused significant delays and train cancellations on the railway lines at the Eastern Station.
Experts are working to recover the derailed carriages so that the train can resume operations as soon as possible.
Keleti station is not receiving any trains, and no trains are currently departing from here.
The affected trains will arrive and depart from other stations in Budapest.
