Ion Țiriac, Simona Halep’s shadow advisor, has pointed out the major mistake made by our athlete upon her return to tennis.
Ţiriac believes that Simona made a mistake when she signed up for a major tournament like the one in Miami. He says that Simona should have participated in smaller tournaments, in qualifiers.
"You need a year and a half of 6-hour training per day. In my opinion. I was burdened with work, less with talent. Even if you train for 6 hours and don't hear the umpire in the chair saying '15-0', '15-15', it's a different story. I would have started with qualifiers in small tournaments.
Until I had played 30 matches in small tournaments, I wouldn't have reached the big ones. Yes, she would have received a wild card in Madrid, but now she doesn't get it at Wimbledon. I wouldn't have gone to Miami, I would have started with qualifiers, I would have begun with that," said Ion Țiriac, quoted by Fanatik.
Simona aims to make a comeback in August, at the tournaments in the USA, where she is trying to obtain a wild card.
She has had good results at these competitions, so they could be a good starting point for her to restart.
Simona played her first match after her return in March, at Miami, where she was eliminated in the first round by Paula Badosa.
Then she was forced to retire in the first round of the Clarince Trophee due to medical issues.
