Gică Hagi (59 years old) surprises with a statement.
The „King” does not want the new stadium in Constanța, where construction has already begun, to bear his name.
This is because he already has the Gheorghe Hagi Football Academy in Ovidiu. The former footballer wanted to publicly announce that he does not want the arena by the Black Sea to be named after him.
"I don't think the stadium will bear my name. It should belong to Constanţa. It should have a different name, not mine. I have an academy, I have dedicated my efforts there. I already have my name associated with something concrete, stable. I have invested everything there. I say it publicly, even though my name is speculated in documents.
A sponsor should come there, a name, some funds should be obtained. A stadium needs maintenance. You shouldn't just have expenses, but also revenues. It is important for Constanţa to think about a major sponsor. And I would like that too. We need to generate revenues to cover the costs," said Gheorghe Hagi at the press conference, quoted by iamsport.ro.
