Bridge over the Danube under repair for at least another month: Now the workers are fixing what they themselves have damaged

The bridge over the Danube at Brăila will remain under repairs for at least one more month. The latest round of patching has already been ongoing for 10 days. It involves traffic restrictions.

Drivers crossing the bridge must use only one lane. Specifically, the Tulcea-Brăila direction is completely closed to traffic.

Work is currently being done to fix the issues with the waterproofing, which was also damaged by the workers.

"When they milled, they practically damaged the waterproofing as well, which was bound to happen, as in certain sections, the waterproofing adhered to the asphalt. (...) From discussions with the contractor, they stated they aim to finish both lanes by asphalt by September 15," said Alin Şerbănescu, as reported by Digi24.

Designed to have a lifespan of 120 years, the suspended bridge over the Danube at Brăila, nicknamed the Romanian Golden Gate, was inaugurated on July 6, 2023, with a procession of dignitaries led by president Klaus Iohannis.

Since then, it has faced numerous issues, from loose screws to fissures in the load-bearing structure attributed to execution errors.

The suspended bridge over the Danube at Brăila is the third largest in Europe and one of the most complex infrastructure projects in Romania.

The bridge cost over 500 million euros.
