Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Thursday, at the beginning of the government meeting, that the rules during the electoral campaign will be modified, so that „we no longer have this practice that we had in the last elections, where a social media tool favored a certain competitor.”
In addition, the Romanian Government will establish fines of 5% of the turnover for platforms that do not comply with the electoral rules.
"The rules should be the same for all candidates," said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
The government meeting also approves the electoral calendar for the presidential elections and analyzes the emergency ordinance project for this election.
"Today we will set the election date for May 4, and also on May 4 there will be partial local elections for the leadership of a county council, for the leadership of a county-resident municipality, for three cities, and, up to this point, 13 communes," specified the head of the Executive.
As for the emergency ordinance, it brings some changes.
"To no longer have this practice that we had in the last elections, where a tool, social media, favored a certain competitor. We have also introduced drastic fines, up to 5% of the turnover, and for certain corporations, this fine could amount to many billions of euros," emphasized Ciolacu.
