A mayor was beaten on the street by another candidate

We are experiencing a very intense electoral campaign in Romania.

The mayor of Redea commune in Olt county, Dan Bălă (PSD), claims that he was hit and insulted on the street by the PNL candidate for the position of mayor.

Only a month ago another PSD candidate for the Mayor of Brădeni commune, Sibiu county, was beaten with a whip by the brother of the current mayor.

"Dear citizens of Redea commune, I just want to let you know that I am fine and after undergoing all the necessary medical procedures for cases of cranial polytrauma, I have been discharged from Caracal Municipal Hospital, and now I am at home in Redea!

For those of you who have not heard yet and wonder why I am making these clarifications, I just want to inform you that today while I was on Sârbeniei street preparing for the start of the asphalt projects, ditches-bridges, and bicycle lanes in our commune, I was physically assaulted, hit, and insulted by the PNL candidate for the position of mayor of Redea! This is how Sorin Ciocîrlie and PNL from Redea understand that a community develops, through daily scandals, hitting citizens, and insulting them," said Dan Bălă in a Facebook post.

The incident took place on Tuesday around 4:00 PM.

"From the initial checks, the police have established that a 57-year-old man from Redea commune, while on Sârbeniei street in the locality, due to a spontaneous conflict, was physically assaulted by another 57-year-old man from the same city.

In this regard, the police have opened a criminal case for the offense of assault or other violence, and investigations are ongoing to establish the facts and take the necessary legal measures," announced Olt County Police.
