Two foreign tourists injured by bears on Transfăgărășan, in less than 24 hours

A 75-year-old tourist from Spain was injured by a bear on Wednesday in the Vidraru Dam area, Argeș County, Romania.

The incident occurred around 13:00, near Posada Hotel, in the commune of Arefu, at the entrance to the Transfăgărășan.

According to initial information, the woman reportedly tried to photograph the bear when she was attacked. She suffered injuries to one hand and was urgently transported to the hospital by ambulance. The call to 112 was made by a man in the area who requested assistance from the authorities.

"Immediately after receiving the call, a patrol of mountain gendarmes was dispatched to the scene. The bear was no longer in the area upon their arrival. The gendarmes escorted the vehicle carrying the victim until the ambulance arrived. Another patrol remained in the area to prevent further incidents," the Argeș County Gendarmerie Inspectorate stated.

A Ro-Alert message was issued to warn the population in the area.

This is the second such incident in Argeș County in just 24 hours. On Tuesday, a Polish tourist was attacked by a bear after attempting to feed it, also on the Transfăgărășan.
