"Russian forces have once again attacked civilian and port infrastructure targets in Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday, January 30, near the border with Romania, in Tulcea County. The monitoring and surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defense have reported the presence of drones in Ukrainian airspace, flying near the border with Romania.
As a result of this situation, two Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft, part of the Air Policing Combat Service, took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea around 3:40 am. The aircraft returned to base around 5:00 am," announces MoND.
The National Military Command Center (core) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the implementation of population alert measures in Tulcea County. At 03:30, an RO-Alert message was sent, and at 4:50, the alert measures in the affected areas were lifted.
Data provided by the Romanian Air Force radar systems did not indicate any penetration of the monitored airborne targets into national airspace.
The MoND forces will conduct, throughout the day, standard procedure investigations in areas where risks may arise from these situations and will continue airspace surveillance missions. Additionally, allied structures are being informed in real-time about the situations resulting from the attacks.
The Ministry of National Defense strongly condemns these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian targets and infrastructure elements, which are unjustified and in serious contradiction with international law norms.
