Iulian Iacomi, the mayor of Lehliu Gară, has been placed under judicial control in the corruption case in which the President of Prahova County Council, Iulian Dumitrescu, is also under criminal investigation. The mayor is being prosecuted for corruption.
The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) announced on Friday that prosecutors from the Anti-Corruption Section have initiated criminal proceedings against Iulian Iacomi, mayor of Lehliu-Gară, suspected of committing the offense of continuous bribery – 50 material acts.
In this case, the mayor has been placed under judicial control, with the prohibition of exercising his function, as well as leaving Romania or contacting defendants or witnesses in the case.
"There are data and evidence outlining the following state of affairs: between 22.10.2021 - 08.11.2022, the defendant Iulian Iacomi, as mayor of Lehliu-Gară, allegedly received in cash from the defendant Iulian Dumitrescu, a person with decision-making authority within a commercial company that owned a land and was the actual beneficiary of the money deposited into a bank account held by that respective commercial company, a total amount of 923,350 lei (in 43 installments) and 74,000 euros (in 7 installments). The money was allegedly given in connection with the defendant Iacomi Iulian's performance of acts within his official duties in the field of urban planning regarding the respective land," as stated in a DNA press release.
Investigators claim that the amount received by the mayor was "a part of a percentage calculated from the sum of 1,120,000 euros, representing the sale price of the land that was credited to the account with the defendant Iulian Dumitrescu as the actual beneficiary."
In this case, prosecutors have imposed a precautionary seizure on five properties owned by the mayor of Lehliu Gară.
