The head of Salvamont is the man attacked by a bear in Predeal. He is in very serious condition

A man was attacked by a bear on Sunday evening in the resort town of Predeal. The victim was found unconscious and taken to the hospital in very serious condition.

The man attacked by the bear is actually the chief of Salvamont Predeal.

Salvamont's response: "Considering the information that appeared in the public space this evening, we confirm that the person attacked by the bear is a member of our team, part of the Public Mountain Rescue Service - Salvaspeo Brașov, the Salvamont Predeal unit.

The event occurred outside of working hours, while our colleague was on his way home."

The victim is in very serious condition

The Emergency Situations Inspectorate reported that a man was attacked by a bear on Tudor Vladimirescu Street in the mountain resort of Predeal, Brașov County.

Two SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) teams, including one intensive care unit, were urgently dispatched to provide specialized medical assistance.

The victim was transported to the hospital in a very serious condition, unconscious, by the SMURD team.

According to the spokesperson for the Brașov County Emergency Clinical Hospital, Marius Leonte, the man was brought in with multiple head and chest injuries.

"The patient was brought in last night from Predeal with multiple craniofacial and thoracic injuries, lacerations on the scalp and face, jaw fractures, and multiple rib fractures caused by a wild animal (bear). He is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, intubated, hemodynamically unstable. At this moment, a multidisciplinary committee decides on the treatment plan," said the representative of the Brașov County Emergency Clinical Hospital, as cited by Agerpres.

The Salvamont chief calls for measures against bears

Sabin Cornoiu, the president of Salvamont Romania, is calling for solutions to prevent such incidents.

"We expect to have tourist resorts, but it turns out we can't handle the situations. It could have been anyone, not just the head of Salvamont.

A solution must be found so that this doesn't happen again. The animals have become bold, the attacks are violent, and we believe that an alarm needs to be raised and action needs to be taken.

"I don't know if the search for the bear has resumed, the animals hide very well, which makes them dangerous. We are constantly exposed to this risk," said Cornoiu on Antena3.

On July 15, 2024, the Parliament approved the bill aimed at managing the bear population. Iohannis promulgated the law on July 23.

It has been established that, in order to prevent bear attacks on the human population and the material damage caused by these animals, for the year 2024, the harvesting of 426 brown bears is approved, representing a prevention level nationally, and 55 brown bears are approved, representing the intervention level nationally.
