**Six people were detained on Wednesday for treason, as stated in a press release from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). A retired general, 101 years old, is under investigation.**
**Starting in 2023, five of the defendants together with a suspect** **formed an organized criminal group with the purpose of undermining the sovereignty and independence of the Romanian state** **through political subversion and undermining the country’s defense capacity, as stated in a press release from** **DIICOT**.
**Starting in 2024, another defendant joined the organized crime group, all members engaging in continuous, conscious, public or covert actions towards achieving the proposed goal.**
**Additionally, the members of the criminal group repeatedly came into contact with agents of a foreign power, both on Romanian territory and in the Russian Federation.**

**A retired general, 101 years old, targeted by the investigation**
**The organized crime group was formed under the guise of an organization and** **developed as a military-style structure, with leadership levels (general staff) and execution personnel, represented by the image of the suspect under investigation, a retired major general**, **specified by DIICOT.**
**DIICOT does not specify the name of the retired general. However,** **prosecutors conducted searches on Wednesday at Radu Theodoru, a war veteran (101 years old) and close to the Russian Federation. The announcement was made by his daughter on Facebook.**
**"Today at 7:45, three DIICOT employees with a search warrant raided my father's residence, General Major (Ret.) war veteran Radu Theodoru," announced the aviation general's daughter on Facebook.**
**The six people detained by DIICOT are members of the organization Command "Vlad Țepeș,"** **said judicial sources to Agerpres.**
**Moreover, on the organization's website, Radu Theodoru appears as the head of the "General Staff of the Vlad Țepeș Command."**
**Two of the defendants traveled to Moscow**
**The conducted investigations revealed that the members of the organized criminal group, through online platforms, recruited followers and published video materials (notifications addressed to the Romanian state authorities, national and international organizations).**
**Additionally, the defendants took steps to:**
- **negotiate with external political-military factors regarding Romania's withdrawal from the military alliance it is a part of,**
- **remove the current constitutional order,**
- **dissolve political parties,**
- **install a new Government composed of organization members who will hold ministerial positions,**
- **remove all employees from state institutions,**
- **adopt a new constitution,**
- **change the country's name, flag, and anthem.**
**At the same time, during January, two of the defendants traveled to Moscow, where they contacted individuals willing to support the organization's efforts to take over state power in Romania.**
**Additionally, the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) states that** **representatives of the accused treason group actively sought support from officers within the Russian Embassy.**
**DIICOT specifies that on Wednesday, 8 search warrants were executed in the city of Bucharest and the counties of Ilfov, Giurgiu, and Maramureș, where several pieces of evidence were identified and seized.**
**Today, a proposal for the preventive arrest of 4 of the defendants and house arrest for the other 2 defendants will be submitted to the judge for rights and liberties at the Bucharest Court of Appeal.**
