Romanian voters who wish to vote in this year’s presidential and/or parliamentary elections by correspondence or at a polling station abroad closer to their residence will be able to register online starting Monday here: www.votstrainatate.ro.
The site has two sections: Election of the President of Romania and Election of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, announced the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP).
Within each section, there are two categories: Voter abroad at a polling station and Voter abroad by correspondence.
Registration for voting by correspondence
Someone who wishes to register for voting by correspondence must complete an online form, including the following information:
- first and last name;
- personal identification number;
- home address or residence;
- email address;
- option for transmission within the country or to the diplomatic representation of the vote expressed by correspondence.
The voter must attach a scanned copy or photograph of his/hers identity card and the document proving the right of residence issued by foreign authorities.
The list of documents proving residence abroad has been issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Registration for the polling station
Someone who wants to vote at a polling station abroad will also complete an online form, including:
- first and last name,
- personal identification number,
- email address,
- city and country where they choose to vote
Additionally, a scanned copy or photograph of his/hers identity document must be attached.
After completing the registration procedure, the voter will receive a verification email containing a link valid for 24 hours, which must be accessed to confirm the request, otherwise the validation procedure will not be completed.
For correspondence voters, the resolution of the request is carried out by AEP within 5 working days after the voter confirms the verification email.
For those who want to register to vote ar a polling station abroad, the resolution of the request is carried out by AEP within 10 working days after the voter confirms the verification email.
A polling station can be established at the request of at least 100 citizens from the same city or group of cities.
The current legal framework allows the option of voting by correspondence only in the elections for the President of Romania, and for the elections for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, reminds AEP.
