Emergency landing at Swiss Air: An employee on board died in the hospital

A member of the crew of a Swiss Air company plane that departed from Bucharest and had to make an emergency landing in Graz on December 23, died from the injuries sustained.

„Swiss mourns the loss of a cabin crew member,” who died at the hospital in Graz, Austria, announced the Swiss airline, cited by AFP.

"Out of respect for the family, we will not provide any detailed information about our employee or the cause of his death," it added.

The crew of this Airbus A220-300, flying between Bucharest and Zurich with 74 passengers on board, decided to make an emergency landing in Graz and evacuate the aircraft "due to engine problems and the detection of smoke in the cabin and cockpit," according to Swiss.

After landing, a cabin crew member was transported to a hospital in Graz and placed in intensive care. Another cabin crew member was also taken to the hospital, and 12 passengers received treatment.

"We will do everything possible, in collaboration with the competent authorities, to determine the causes of the accident. We have many questions and want to receive answers," it is added in the Swiss statement, a subsidiary of the German airline Lufthansa.

Swiss stated that they are investigating not only the mechanical components of the aircraft, such as the engine, but also the use of the Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE) for the cabin crew.
