Dozens of prosecutors have sued the Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) because they feel discriminated against.
They earn 5,000 euros per month, compared to the 8,000 euros received by Romanian prosecutors delegated to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Therefore, they want the state to pay them the salary differences from the establishment of the EPPO (June 1, 2021), plus penalty interest and inflation index.
Among the 43 who initiated this lawsuit is the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of DNA, Silviu Paul Dimitriu.
The case is being heard at the Bucharest Tribunal, Labor Disputes Section, as reported by G4Media.
The action is directed against the DNA, as well as the Romanian Council for Combating Discrimination.
The European Public Prosecutor's Office, led by Laura Codruța Kovesi, investigates crimes against the EU budget and cases of cross-border VAT fraud involving damages of over 10 million euros.
20 delegated prosecutors of the EPPO carry out their activities in Romania, in Bucharest, Cluj Napoca, Iași, and Timișoara.
According to the law, they are exclusively paid by the European Public Prosecutor's Office, with salaries subject to national legislation on taxation and social security contributions and health insurance.
The DNA prosecutors argue that they have the same employment conditions, competencies, rights, and benefits, and perform the same work, especially since combating fraud related to European funds falls within their jurisdiction.
