Amazon is closing its Machine Learning department in Romania.
And starting from January 1st, around 400 people will be laid off.
"Negotiations are currently underway regarding the amount of compensation paid by the company to those being laid off, the company has offered only one severance payment, but employees are pushing for more," announces Doru Şupeală on Facebook, an expert in marketing and digital business.
This department being shut down, named internally AGI Data Services, managed and validated data to feed AI models and applications, explains the expert.
Amazon representatives have confirmed the decision in a statement echoed by Doru Şupeală:
"After careful consideration, we have announced that we are exploring the option to close the AGI Data Services operations in Romania. We have already notified employees whose roles may be affected and we are committed to supporting them throughout the transition."
The company officials have not officially disclosed the number of affected employees and the value of the compensations offered.
