Mircea Lucescu, buried with military honors

Mircea Lucescu was buried on Friday, after over 15,000 Romanians came to the National Arena to bid him farewell.

The funeral service took place at the Saint Elefterie Church, starting at 10:00 a.m. and lasted for 75 minutes. Among the well-known names present at the church were Gică Hagi, Dorin Mateuț, Dănuț Lupu, Răzvan Burleanu, and Mihai Stoica.

Răzvan Lucescu, George Copos, and Răzvan Burleanu spoke at the service. Additionally, Patriarch Daniel conveyed a message.

PAOK Thessaloniki, the club coached by Răzvan Lucescu, had four representatives at the funeral: CEO Maria Goncharova, technical director Christos Karipidis, advisor Vieirinha, and Răzvan's assistant, Pantelis Konstantinidis.

From there, the funeral procession moved to the Bellu Cemetery, where the burial ceremony took place.

Mircea Lucescu was buried with military honors. The military band played the Romanian national anthem, and the National Guard fired several cannon salutes.

An emotional message is sculpted on the funerary monument: "Ranks, glory, wealth, all end in the earth, every beauty, let it be, all fade and melt away. Those who live, whatever you do, monuments, good deeds, you leave behind."

Mircea Lucescu passed away on Tuesday, April 7, at 8:36 p.m. at the Emergency University Hospital in Bucharest, at the age of 80.

He was admitted on March 29 after fainting at the national team's training camp. Subsequently, on April 3, Lucescu suffered a heart attack on the day he was supposed to be admitted. His condition worsened day by day, and on Tuesday, the coach passed away.
