How the Kremlin wants to completely break the USA - Europe axis

The Kremlin continues to engage in a coordinated informational effort aimed at amplifying the rhetoric of nuclear escalation, likely in an attempt to provoke a rift between the United States and the European Union, according to American military analysts.

The Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia (SVR) claimed on Wednesday that unspecified European leaders are discussing the development of the EU’s nuclear weapons production capabilities.

SVR stated that Russia is bringing this accusation to the attention of the United States to help prevent the EU from developing nuclear weapons, as shown in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to American analysts, SVR seems to be launching these unfounded accusations as part of the Kremlin's ongoing effort to fracture relations between the US and Europe in Russia's favor, claiming that the EU would act against America's nuclear interests.

The Kremlin frequently uses the Russian foreign intelligence service to make unfounded accusations. SVR has made unsubstantiated claims about Ukraine's alleged nuclear aspirations and to formulate nuclear threats against Ukraine, Great Britain, and France.

Additionally, in February, SVR accused Great Britain and France, without presenting evidence, of attempting to transfer a "dirty bomb" or a nuclear weapon to Ukraine, which could disrupt ongoing discussions about Western security guarantees for Ukraine, remind American military analysts.

Russia's Foreign Espionage Has Also Meddled in Romania

The Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia (SVR) also addressed the political situation in Romania, stating in a communication in March 2025 that the Prosecutor's Office's decision to press charges against Călin Georgescu is supported by the EU leadership, which aims to defeat anti-system leaders from various countries.

Russia's foreign espionage also marched on the same theme of creating a rift between the United States and Europe. According to SVR, "European bureaucracy has declared war on anti-system leaders who are open supporters of US President Donald Trump and refuse to follow the instructions of the liberal elites governing the European Union."

"The European total-liberal elite clearly fears a return of conservatives in Europe under the influence of Trump," emphasized SVR, in the statement quoted by TASS, adding that "Brussels is not sparing resources in its efforts to implement such a scenario."

Meloni: The US and Europe Are Going Through a "Very Difficult" Period

The relationship between the United States and Europe is going through a "very difficult" period, acknowledged Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday in front of the deputies, stating that she wants to "work to keep the two shores of the Atlantic united" while also calling on Europe to strengthen its independence, as reported by News.ro.

"It is undeniable that we are going through a very difficult period in the relations between Europe and the United States," said the Italian government leader, known for her closeness to US President Donald Trump, in a general policy speech delivered to parliament.

"But it is equally undeniable that the current American administration has accelerated a trajectory widely announced by previous administrations (...): a progressive disinterest in Europe in favor of global competition with China, thus making the Indo-Pacific region a priority geostrategic axis," she added.
