Praising words for Sorana Cîrstea, spoken by Emma Răducanu, after the lost final at the WTA Transylvania Open

British athlete with Romanian origins Emma Raducanu lost as the number 1 favorite in the final of the WTA Transylvania Open, a WTA 250 tournament held in Cluj-Napoca.

Raducanu, the former US Open champion at just 19 years old, immediately appeared on the British television BBC after losing to our athlete born in Targoviste, with a score of 6-0, 6-2, in the final held on Saturday.

She acknowledged the superiority of her 36-year-old opponent, noting that her accumulated fatigue throughout the Transylvania tournament played a role in the final:

"I have mixed feelings. I am very pleased to have reached the final and won 4 consecutive matches, but obviously today I didn't feel as good on the court. It was disappointing because it was my first final after such a long period. But, I must say that Sorana played an incredible match," Raducanu said in an interview for BBC.

She had already reached the final after a grueling long match in the previous round with the Ukrainian Olynykova, lasting about 3 hours:

"I was troubled by an infection, and the semifinal match was exhausting. Therefore, I was very tired from the start in the final. But I prefer to be in this situation than to have lost that match and not be able to be an integral part of the final. In conclusion, no regrets, it is what it is. I am not used to playing 4 matches in a row. It is definitely a step in the right direction," Emma added.

Emma Raducanu thus remains with only one career trophy, the fabulous US Open from 2021, when at 19 years old she won without losing a set in both the qualifiers and all matches in the main draw at Flushing Meadows.
